Although the bows are as safe as they can be, any small item can be a choking hazard! Close supervision is advised at all times while your pet is wearing any hair bows. If your furbaby has a tendency to chew, Bitter Apple, or a similar colorless product can be lightly misted on the bow to discourage this habit.
Below are sizing charts to assist you in making your selections.
The sizes listed are my personal preferences, yours may be different. If you should happen to receive your order, and feel a bow is to large or small for your furbaby, we do have an exchange policy.
Buddy is wearing a single top-knot bow.
If your pet is 6+ lbs, the standard size should be fine.
If your pet is smaller, I would recommend the smaller size. The smaller size has less ribbons and they are cut shorter.
The size of the bow is displayed in the following format, 7/8″ x 1-1/4″ The width of the ribbon is always the first set of numbers listed (example: 7/8″). The width of the bow, from side to side is listed next (example: 1-1/4″)
All of my bows are measured from the outside of the bottom loop. The width of the flag back is not not taken into consideration in the measurement.
A chart of approximate bows sizes are listed below.
What’s all this loop business? You can adjust the look and size by adding, or removing loops, along with adding or removing the Flag Back. Below are examples of what this looks like.
The flag back is the widest, fancy cut part of the bow. On the bow shown above the flag back is the V cut part of the ribbon/bow.
Most bows are made with a zigzag cut flag back, however there are a few options available. If you would prefer a different cut for your flag back, or no flag back at all, just make note of that in the comments section during check out.

Years of research, practice and refinement have gone into producing the high quality dog bows that I create. For this reason, I cannot provide anyone with instructions on how to make bows. I also cannot provide specific information about fabric stiffeners, or suppliers.
7/8″ bows are made with 2 elastic bands, and 3/8″ bows have 3 elastics for topknot placement.; This allows for the safest and highest quality bow.
It is my opinion that barrettes create a increased risk of choking if ingested.
Another issue to consider is that barrettes are not as sturdy as the elastic bands.
The barrettes can come loose from the bow, where as the elastics will not. The elastics are very high quality, and seldom break.
Because of the safety issue, I prefer not to attach barrettes to bows. Safety, and a sturdy, high quality bow are extremely important! That said, I will add barrettes at your request, but please keep the following in mind:
Q. How well will the barrettes stay in my pet’s hair?
A. How well the barrettes hold on to the hair depends on a couple of factors.
Q. How well will the bow stay attached to the barrette?
Q. Can I pay you to reattach a barrette for me if it comes loose?
